Help is on the way for Putnam Counties and other Upper Cumberland Counties hit hard by the ice storm. The federal government is going to assist those areas hit hardest by February's winter storm.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Public Assistance Program will help 35 counties still recovering from the winter storm that claimed the lives of 30 people and caused severe damage. The National Weather Service said it was one of the state's worst ice storms in about 20 years. In Putnam County, the Monterey area was particularly hard hit by ice and snow.
