Helping Hands of Putnam County is celebrating 40 years of helping those in need in the community.
“We’ve been here 40 years and it still amazes me how many people still don’t know that we exist,” according to Debbie Handlson, executive director of the agency.
Helping Hands provides food and help with items like utility bills, medications and gasoline vouchers to help those in need get to out-of-town doctor appointments.
The organization serves an average of 270 families a month, ranging from low income families to those in emergency situations such as losing a job. Their biggest demographic, however, is senior citizens.
Those in need of help can call 931-526-3838 to set up an appointment. Anyone interested in donating may call that same number or financial gifts may be mailed to 421 E. Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501
